Trekking to the village of Ma Tra and Ta Phin you will be able to meet both Black H’Mong and Red Dzao minorities. Tour overview

Ta Phin Village is located in Ta Phin Commune, Sa Pa District, about 12km Northeast of Sa Pa Town. The village is surrounded by mountains and owns spectacular rice terraces. Ta Phin village is home to the H’Mong ang Red Dzao. Tourists can enjoy the panorama view of the whole valley with the colorful ethnically cultural treasure.

Ma Tra village to end up in Ta Phin village where the Red Dzao people and the Black H’mong people share the same land. The H’Mong group are living higher in the mountains while the Dzao people work and live on the flat fields in the center of the valley.

Itinerary

09:00 AM: After breakfast, leaving busy town behind, we begin the day with a three-kilometer trek through breathtaking landscape to the village of Suoi Ho, home to H’Mong minority. From here you can enjoy views over endless rice terraces, and you will have the opportunity to see some of the animals used by the locals.We follow a trail running through the beautiful gardens and lush pine forests to the Black H’Mong ethnic minority village of Ma Tra. This small village seems to be hideaway from the civilization though it’s only few kilometers from Sapa town. Then, you will come across the impressive ruins of a church dating back to the French occupation in the early 1900s. Take a minute to explore this intriguing sight and take some photos. The expert tour guide will stop us at some houses to chat with local people as well as pupils at a primary school.

12:00 PM: Having picnic lunch at village.

13:00 PM: Trekking to the village of Ta Phin you will be able to meet both Black Hmong and Red Dzao minorities. The Red Dzao are known for their expertise in herbal medicine as well as usage of plants from the land to treat many illnesses. Spending lot of time contacting with the Red Dzao people who live in larger village and very good at handicraft: Silver work for men and embroidery for women.

Your guide will be able to introduce you to some Red Dzao women who can tell you more about their many remedies. A Red Dzao herbal medicine bath can be arranged for you to experience, so please ask.

16:00 PM: Transport will be provided from Ta Phin back to Sapa.

Thing to bring

  • Warm clothes, scarf, hat, cap because the weather in Sapa is pretty unpredictable. It is normally cold in September, October, November, December, January, February and March
  • Due to altitude of Sapa, it is sometimes foggy in December, January, February and March.
  • Trekking shoes, sun glasses, sun cream, insect repellent are also necessary. You should take cash with you in Vietnam Dong because banking system in Sapa sometimes doesn’t function well. US Dollar, Euro, Australia Dollar are accepted in Sapa.
  • You should take medicine with you in case you get sick in Sapa.
