Bac Ha market is the biggest ethnic minority market in the Northwest in Vietnam. In this market, you can meet different ethnic minority groups such as Black Dzao, Flower H’Mong, Nung, Phu La and Tay. This tour brings you have a chance to discover the local life of ethnic minorities people here.

Tour overview

Bac Ha market, located in the heart of Bac ha small town is the largest one in the area. Every Sunday, the different and colorful ethnic minority come all here to sell their homemade products or buy something for the family. They are H’Mong, Phu La, Back Dzao, Tay or Nung minorities. Some of these ethnic minorities can’t be met in any other areas.

The highlights of this trip is to live yourself in Bac Ha colorful market that happens only on Sunday and also to take a wonderful boat trip upstream Chay River, to have some pleasant walks through Tay village.

Route:

  1. Lao Cai station –> Bac Ha market-Sapa ( pick up at 9:00Am) .
  2. Sapa -Bac Ha – Lao Cai station ( pick up at 7-7:30Am ).
  3. Sapa – Bac Ha – Sapa ( pick up at 7-7:30Am ) .

Itinerary: 

07:00 am – 08:00 am: You will depart from Sapa hotel

10:00 am: Arrival Bac Ha market

Bac Ha is the meeting place of many different ethnic tribes who come to share their culture as well as sell their wares, food, and livestock. At the market, you will have the opportunity to experience all of the different tribes’ foods and unique clothing.

12:00 pm: At lunch you can taste local dishes and try the wines made from rice, corn, and fruit. Upon leaving you will see the H’Mong king’s house that was built by the French and Chinese in the 1920s. You will leave the market in the afternoon for a return to Sapa or for the night train to Lao Cai.

Thing to bring

  • Warm clothes, scarf, hat, cap because the weather in Sapa is pretty unpredictable. It is normally cold in September, October, November, December, January, February and March
  • Due to altitude of Sapa, it is sometimes foggy in December, January, February and March.
  • Trekking shoes, sun glasses, sun cream, insect repellent are also necessary. You should take cash with you in Vietnam Dong because banking system in Sapa sometimes doesn’t function well. US Dollar, Euro, Australia Dollar are accepted in Sapa.
  • You should take medicine with you in case you get sick in Sapa.
